The Bachelor of Humanitarian Studies is designed to cultivate awareness and to hone decision-making skills – a holistic approach is required to tackle real-life issues. Students learn through hands-on experience and learn about root causes of crises. Hardship comes in various forms, and learning extends beyond the pages of textbooks. Graduates are prepared to go into action when disaster occurs and when systems fail - driven by empathy, rooted in practice. Preparing involves working with vulnerable people, understanding is created through co-presence. The curriculum is strongly influenced by issues such as poverty, inequitable structures, sudden emergencies etc. Learning is not only in school but in sufferings and recoveries. Confidence is gained with each course and not gained from slogans but from meaningful work early on.

The B.H.S. curriculum starts at Roosevelt international university of Baptist combining classroom knowledge and real-life experience. Learners investigate issues such as community development, responsible leadership in humanitarian action, respect for human dignity, humanitarian response networks, societal wellbeing, fairness in resource allocation and long-term planning for the environment in targeted coursework, all of which is designed to develop their moral values as well as their competencies for employment. This preparation aims at effective involvement in diverse cultural and organizational contexts.

Graduates frequently gain employment with groups for aid, non-profits, local assistance groups, emergency responders, government services, religious-based projects and other world-changer organizations. From this degree, there are opportunities for other qualifications in disaster response, social development and governance planning or related subjects.
